    Good Enough For Gringos is the long awaited debut album from Sydney-based tango quintet Tángalo. The album is a unique blend of both new arrangements of 'Golden Age' tango music, and original compositions by Owen Salomé and Emily-Rose Šarkova.

    Tángalo use Violin, Guitar, Double Bass, Flute, Accordion, Piano and Voices to create a sound that is is beguiling and vividly personal. The dazzling instrumental lines and impassioned vocals reference both the poetic background of tango music, and something considerably more modern.

    Gentler tracks such as 'Jacinto Chiclana' contrast with the violence of the 'Fugato'. Recognisable and well known tangos such as 'La Cumparsita' and 'Poema' are re-imagined ( with new arrangements that celebrate the essence of tango). The more playful 'El Patito Feo' and 'De Antaño' can be heard next to the sensuous 'Las Aguas Tranquilas' and the tension of 'Tango Lluvia'.

    The wonderful vocals of esteemed Argentine tango singer, Fabián Rodríguez, are featured on 'Hasta Siempre Amor' in a unique collaboration.

    Through all of these changing moods and characters, Tángalo maintain an exquisite musical sensitivity that allows this album to simply unfurl like the scent of an exotic flower drifting in the warm summer air of a Buenos Aires, or Sydney, evening.

(Castellano) Mi barrio esta de fiesta, con su mejor sonrisa y una ternura extraña, me invade el corazón, parece que las horas, corriesen más de prisa y que del mismo barro, brotase una canción. La murga de purretes, desafinando un tango machuca los oidos, con destemplada voz, gorriones de mi barrio, que vuelcan en el fango, puñados de alegria, que les regala Dios. ¡Carnaval de mi barrio!, donde todo es amor, cascabeles de risa, matizando el dolor, ¡carnaval de mi barrio!, pedacito de sol, con nostalgias de luna, y canción de farol. La que volvio sin honra, se disfrazó de apache, y el barrio en cada puerta, comenta sin cesar, su traje descarado, sus ojos azabache, y su poca vergüenza, que no sabe ocultar. El tano verdulero, sentado en la vereda, mastica su cachimbo, cansado de fumar y en su sonrisa amarga una nostalgia enreda; también alla en Italia vivió su carnaval. (English) My neighbourhood is celebrating with its best smile, and a strange tenderness invades my heart. It seems that the hours pass more quickly and from the mud itself, a song sprouts. A band of street kids, singing a tango out of tune, bruises the ears with an unpleasant voice. These are the sparrows of my neighbourhood, that spill onto the mud, handfuls of joy that God gives them. Carnival in my neighbourhood! where everything is love, bells of laughter, toning down the pain, Carnival in my neighbourhood! A small piece of the sun, with the nostalgias of the moon, and the song of the lamppost. The woman who came back without honour was disguised as a thug, and the neighbours in each door gossiped non-stop about her shameless costume, her jet black eyes, and her lack of modesty, (which she doesn’t know how to hide). The Italian grocer seated on the sidewalk, chews on his pipe, tired of smoking, and in his bitter smile a nostalgia tangles; back in Italy, he too lived his carnival.

Los años no dejan ver el entrevero y el brillo. ¡Quién sabe por qué razón me anda buscando ese nombre! Me gustaría saber cómo habrá sido aquel hombre. Alto lo veo y cabal, con el alma comedida; capaz de no alzar la voz y de jugarse la vida. (Recitado) Nadie con paso más firme habrá pisado la tierra. Nadie habrá habido como él en el amor y en la guerra. Sobre la huerta y el patio las torres de Balvanera y aquella muerte casual en una esquina cualquiera. No veo los rasgos. Veo, Bajo el farol amarillo, El choque de hombres o sombras Y esa víbora, el cuchillo. Acaso en aquel momento En que le entraba la herida, Pensó que a un varón le cuadra No demorar la partida. The passing years don't let us see the brawl and the brilliance. Who knows for what reason that name is looking for me! I would like to know how that man must have been. I picture him tall and consummate, with his obliging soul; capable of not raising his voice, yet ready to risk his life. No one with a firmer footing ever walked this earth. No one else would have lived like him in love and in war. In the orchard, and the patio; in the towers of Balvanera and then - a casual death, in a corner. I do not see these characteristics. I see, under the yellow light, the clash of men or shadows and that viper, the knife. Perhaps at that moment, when his body was wounded, he thought that it was best, not to delay the departure. Only God can know how faithful and kind that man was, Gentlemen, I am singing the essence of his name. To have been brave is something, that nobody ever regrets. The courage is always better. The hope is never vain. And so, this milonga is for Jacinto Chiclana.

Tiempo de pantalón a la francesa, noches en que reinaba la ilusión, cuando el amor se volcaba en serenatas, luna de plata sobre el balcón. Tiempo. del bordonear de las guitarras, bajo los techos verdes del parral, cuando el clavel se enredaba en la guedeja, junto a la oreja de algún zorzal. (English) In the darling suburban lanes, the cries of the poor put sun in the mornings, and the girls in front of the green-grocer shudder at the cat-calls of the gallant men. There is a flurry of braids and calico; a bright polychrome suburb, and at each gate with the sun pouring in, a little more life, and another sentimental love. A Time: of French undergarments, of nights where the illusion reigned, when love poured in serenades; a silver moon on the balcony. A Time: of the droning of guitars below the green canopy of vines, where the carnation became entangled, joining the tendrils of song, made by a thrush.
